本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I know many friends are very interested in this topic, so I just write down some experience in job hunting, and hope u can take whatever you think interest and useful for u.

Once I arrived toronto, I began read local newspaper's classified adv immediately. The first paper I read is Toronto Star, Saturday version. Yes, there were so many jobs there. Many of them for IT people. For me, I focused on marketing, sales, customer services. Because at that time, I was so confident that as per my former working experience in these few fields, I thought I could find an assistant job in these fields. And the same time my resume were also focused on my mkt and sales experiences. But u know what, on the first night, my friend picked me up at the airport, their words attacked me a lot. " Don't even think about any mkt, sales, or customer service job, can u do that? Can u speak a fluent English as native canadian, without any Chinese accent? The most important thing is, do u have any local working experience? Do u have any local education background? Do u have any certificate? ,,,,, I had none of them. I had to admit that. I can't speak as fast, as flunt, as standard as native, I was even not confident to speak to strangers at that time. Though it sounded impossible for me when I was in China, as I was quite out-going. Friends told me, even for secretary, canada requires for all kinds of certificate. For legal secretary, for property secretary, for dental secretary, whatever. But for me, not even qualified for a secretary. How can I find job? What kind of job can I do? I can't help asking myself these kinds of questions. What should I do?

First thing is to re-write my resume. Once u decide to set yourself to which level, and what kind of job, then u should focus ur former experience on that field. It's not cheating, just to different target customers. So I went to the library, to find some books to revise my resume, and cover letter, both of which were very important. As my former job in China was not relative with technical things, so actually I didn't have any advantages. But I find that I was quite good at office job, such as preparing presentation, doing clerical jobs, as I have done a lot before, as I have done admin assistant before, so I decided to develop myself in this field. So I put my mkt & sales experience aside, and mainly described my clerical skills, and admin assistant skills.

Okay, after u set ur target, the next thing should be searching in the newspaper, and find a good place to send out resume.

Canada is so nice that, it offeres a lot of free HRDC, human resources center for the public to hunt a job. At there, everything is free! Perfect. U can send out fax as many as u want, u can use free internet. U can watch some interview skill vedio, or , u can even ask the staffs there, to revise ur resume.

At that time, I don't have a fax machine, or a computer, so I almost spend everyday there. The staffs there are very nice and kind. They can recongnizenow me.

****** So sorry, tomorrow have to go to work, and now it's already 1:13 am, and I have to wake up no later than 6:50 am, so I have to go to bed now, otherwise I don't even know what I am writing, it's so bad. Talk to u guys later. Take care, and good luck. lumlum更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
